Apprentices kick-start their careers in construction at Exmouth’s Plumb Park

Seven apprentices are kick-starting their careers in construction at Plumb Park in Exmouth, the joint venture new homes development between Clinton Devon Estates and Taylor Wimpey.

Ian Perkins, Tom Wright, Joshua Parsons-Daring, Max Turner, Kade Haymen, Matthew Priddle and Conor Moore, aged between 18 and 27, are based at the Exmouth site full-time and are undertaking paid apprenticeships in carpentry and electrical installation.

Formed in partnership with Exeter-based PGL Training, the apprenticeships offer a mix of theoretical coursework and on-site experience. With the new recruits Taylor Wimpey Exeter has boosted its team of apprentices to 14, with training offered across site management, carpentry, bricklaying, plumbing and various other trades.

Richard Harrison, Land and Planning Director at Taylor Wimpey Exeter, said: “Talented apprentices are the future of our production business and we are investing in apprentices to help train the workforce of tomorrow. Skilled labourers and technicians are key to building quality homes and we are committed to ensuring that the right amount of trained individuals are brought into the industry.”

Melissa Langton, Sales and Marketing Director at Taylor Wimpey Exeter, added: “We’re always proud to offer more opportunities to young people looking to begin their careers. Our apprenticeships are designed to give the right balance between classroom learning and hands-on experience, ensuring our trainees are best placed to be offered a permanent opportunity after their studies.”
